Samsung’s One UI 5.1 update has introduced a new dynamic weather widget to the home screen. The widget comes in two sizes, but only the larger size features the full set of animations. The widget displays a stylized drawing of a person dressed for the occasion, i.e., matching the weather outside. The animations last for roughly four seconds and don’t loop, but they can be triggered again by tapping the small “refresh” button.

While the dynamic weather widget is a nice addition, it's worth noting that Samsung appears to have missed a few weather types, and some weather types lack the animated person altogether. For example, if it's fair or partly cloudy, there's no clever animation for One UI 5.1 users to enjoy. Overall, out of the six weather types tested, only four had animations.

One other positive feature of One UI 5.1 dynamic weather widgets is that they are stackable. Samsung added stackable home screen widgets to Galaxy phones and tablets through the One UI 5.0 update, and One UI 5.1 makes use of this new capability.

Overall, while the dynamic weather widget is a nice addition, Samsung may need to work on perfecting it to include more weather types and animations. Nonetheless, the new One UI 5.1 update brings a handful of improvements and features, which should enhance the user experience for Galaxy phone and tablet users.
